What the dates mean
- Confirmation statement: every company must confirm its details with Companies House at least once every 12 months. You have 14 days after the "made up to" date to file it.
- Annual accounts: a private company's first accounts are due 21 months after it was incorporated. After that, they are due 9 months after the end of each financial year.
The dates above come directly from the public Companies House register, so they are the dates Companies House itself uses.
What happens if you miss a deadline
Late accounts lead to an automatic late filing penalty from Companies House, which grows the later you file. Missing the confirmation statement or accounts can also lead Companies House to strike the company off the register, and directors can be prosecuted. If a date is close or overdue, act now: we can prepare and file for you, often the same day.

Frequently asked questions
Where do I find my company number?
On your certificate of incorporation, on Companies House letters and on the company's page on the Companies House register. It has 8 characters, for example 01234567 for England and Wales or SC123456 for Scotland.
Is this data up to date?
Yes. Every search reads the live Companies House register, so it shows the same due dates Companies House uses.
What if my accounts are already overdue?
File as soon as possible: the Companies House penalty increases the later the accounts arrive. Contact us and we can usually prepare dormant or simple accounts quickly.
Do I need to file a confirmation statement if nothing has changed?
Yes. You must file one at least every 12 months even if nothing has changed, to confirm the details on the register are correct.
